Depending on how old you get, you will notice a difference. However, as in most everything computing, it will be as fast as the slowest piece of hardware. The slowest is likely to be your internet connection, since even network cards from the late 80s could do 10mps and your home internet probably isn't that fast.

Having less RAM (which is memory) will make a noticable slow down, but it won't be like night and day. You will still get your stuff in a reasonable amount of time.

If you are using Vista Basic or Vista Business editions, your copy of Windows media player won't have its own DVD decoder (Vista Home premium and Ultimate do).

Windows media player borrows the DVD decoder from other DVD playback software installed on your system (e.g.. WinDVD or PowerDVD) to play DVD movies. If these playback softwares are not installed or were uninstalled by the restoration process WMP will be unable to access the decoder and you get the error message. To correct the problem you would need to reinstall the other DVD playback software.

Be patient. If you have lots of expansion packs then they will make the loading process longer because of the additional content.

If you have an issue I suggest going to a technician or someone and asking if there may be an issue with either your computer or the game. But it does seem like your sat there for hours on end waiting for the game to load!! Ha-ha.

What I will also say is, if you want to increase the performance of your computer, then you aren't going to do that for free. I'm afraid you must be prepared to pay for things like that.
No one ever got anywhere from being cheap.

Hope this helps. Happy "Simming". x

Usually if you take the RAM out of the computer, there is a sticker on it that will list the specs of the RAM.

If you are not comfortable opening the case, you have a program called "MSINFO" on most computers. Go to C:Windowsmsappsmsinfo" and run the MSINFO program. This will give you many stats about your computer, including the RAM speed and type.

You can speed up Vista by installing it on a faster computer. That dinosaur is 7 year old technology trying to run a 2 year old operating system.

If you insist on continuing to use that computer, run XP.

Well, the answers to questions 1 and 2 are the same. Go to control panel, Click on the programs button, and you will see under default programs "Stop a program from running at start up" and "Set your default programs". Use these two options to choose what to use when you start up windows and it should help your speed a little :)

Running Vista with 2GB of RAM is a trick - if you keep the number of programs running to a bare minimum, you can do it without losing too much speed. Run msconfig (from the Start Search window in Start), fo to the Startup tab and turn off anything you don't want running when you start the computer.

(And get rid of Norton - it's not a good AV program, it's a resource hog and it causes problems. A free one like AVG or Avira is better.)
